Zamet Centre / 3LHD© Domagoj Blazevic

Situated in Rijeka’s quarter Zamet, the new Zamet Centre in complete size of 16830 m2 hosts various facilities: sports hall with max 2380 seats, local community offices, library, 13 retail and service spaces and a garage with 250 parking spaces. One third of the sports hall’s volume is cut in the ground, and the rest of the Centre is fully fitted into the surrounding landscape. The building’s main architectural element are ribbon-like linear stripes stretching over the site in a north-south direction, functioning at the same time as an architectural design element of the object and as a zoning element which forms a public square and a link between the park on the north and school and B. Vidas street on the south.

+Rolf: Scandic Stockholm

The area around Vasagatan is one of Stockholm's most expansive and exciting, with its central location and numerous ongoing development projects. And this is where the city's big new hotel – Scandic Stockholm – will be built. The hotel will have over 400 rooms, meeting facilities, a restaurant and a large hotel bar/lounge that is open to everyone. The new hotel is building on classic historical roots. The street became Vasagatan during Stockholm's major renaming project of 1885, and the building is 130 years old. Scandic Stockholm will, however, have its own story, design and identity, based on the special and inspirational surroundings.

Multi-tenant Project in FukuyamaMulti-tenant-Project1

UID Architects projected a multi-tenant building to enclose a dental clinic, an beauty salon and UID’s architectural office. The building, located in a long and narrow plot surrounded on all three sides by neighboring houses, has a cedar-clad plywood shell that neatly encloses the steel structure. The dental clinic is located on the first floor while the beauty salon and the architectural office are on the send floor. Truly a mixed-program regarding the businesses in the multi-tenant building.

The idea was to have two stories of a different kind of building. The concept was born out of the wrist movement when scribbling on paper. The area allowed for building was very long and narrow due to multiple restrictions. We began piling the rooms in one row at one end until we met the border; then we turned the room itself backwards and that is how the building obtained its current form.

Santiago Calatrava's Next Sculpture: The Lige-Guillemins Railway Stationimage

Calatrava has a fondness for the city after spending nearly 11 years bouncing in and out during the construction and sees the importance of Liges history as an industrial area prior to the steelworks collapse, and feels a need to recognize the strong foundation needed for Lige to become a viable gateway city.

Celosia Residence | MVRDV

In Madrid-Sanchinarro the first residents received the keys to their apartments in the just completed Celosia building. Jacob van Rijs of MVRDV and Blanca Lleó have completed the social housing block near the Mirador Building, which is an earlier collaboration. The perforated block of Celosia assembles 146 apartments, communal outside areas throughout the building, and parking and commercial program in the plinth. The total floor area is 21,550m2. With a construction cost of 12,6 million Euro the apartments can be sold for affordable prizes. The city block is opened and allows wind and light to enter the building, offering vistas and outside spaces contrasting the surrounding area. The client is EMVS, the public housing corporation of the city of Madrid.

Sports and Leisure Center in Saint-Cloud / KOZ Architectes© Stephan Lucas

This building is not lacking in self-confdence. As proof, you only have to take the second left along the Avenue de Longchamps from the Les Côteaux tramway Station in Saint-Cloud. No sooner have you left behind a quiet row of smart private houses in the traditional millstone grit Parisian style with front steps and plane trees than you come face to face with an odd-looking building, imposing but also childishly simple, more cubist than cube-shaped, decidedly “fashy”, evoking happy memories of a child’s toy.
