In the near future we will increasingly be confronted with the problem of building fabric from the 1960s and 1970s that no longer satisfies present-day functional and technical standards. One project that tackles this problem is the refurbishment of a theatre building in Zurich Nord, which, in order to run it as a going concern, required an additional 700 seats and a larger foyer.

Jean Nouvel Paris skyscraper shelved

french architect jean nouvel's plans to build a high tech skyscraper in paris, have been put on hold after investors hard-hit by the global slowdown grew nervous. nouvel won the contract to build the signal tower in 2008 as part of an ambitious plan to rejuvenate la defense, the drab business district on paris's western edge. the project will become a reality once the economic crisis has eased,' nouvel said in a statement.
